So, for some reason, this morning I awoke at 01:25 as if my night's sleep was concluded. Turns out it was! After turning over for the umpteenth time trying to go back to sleep, I gave up at 02:35 and got up. I figured that if I started reading I might fall back asleep. Nope. But I turned to where I left off in 2 Chronicles. I know, you're thinking boring. Unfortunately, for those of you who don't read the Old Testament regularly, you are missing out on a lot of good stuff.
For instance, when I got to 2 Chronicles chapter 26 this morning, I encountered something I didn't remember, even though I've read through the Old Testament many times. Maybe it's because I seem to have 3/4 timer's now, not quite all yet, or perhaps it is because of the modern language I'm reading. This year I'm reading the Old Testament in the CEV, or the Contemporary English Version.
2 Chronicles 26:14-15 CEV
Uzziah supplied his army with shields, spears, helmets, armor, bows, and stones used for slinging. (nothing new there) 15 Some of his skilled workers invented machines that could shoot arrows and sling large stones. (what? are we talking crossbows? Catapults? how did I miss this all these years?) Uzziah set these up in Jerusalem at his defense towers and at the corners of the city wall.
I definitely have some new research to conduct now as I suss this out!
