What do Athlone, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, and Limerick have in common?
Yes, they are all cities in the Republic of Ireland, but they are also cities in which I have reservations to stay at the end of the "Merry, Merry Month of May!"
I'm not sure why, but I have always wanted to go there. Maybe because Grandpa Green was a fiddle player who kind of danced around like a Leprechaun sometimes? Maybe because when I was little he told me stories of perhaps having ties to Ireland? Maybe it's the Celtic music? Or just the idea of castles and Kings and pubs on the greens?
I have no desire for Northern Ireland. I will not spend one minute or one pound there, only euros in the republic. I believe all of Ireland should be united and the British should be gone. So, our travel loop is around the republic. One could argue their flag is a symbol of unity... Green for Catholics and the Isle itself, Orange for the Protestants, and white for the peace between them. But...
Politics aside, I am super excited! We wanted to go a few years ago, then came Covid. After that, some little people arrived. Now it looks like we may finally take off. I don't know if I need to kiss the Blarney Stone to receive the gift of gab, I'm pretty sure I already have it, but I intend to do it anyway!
