This day began with a full Irish breakfast at Fanad. Then we took a stroll down to the River Nore for a boat tour.
We loaded on the west side of the river. However, you see the tour boats docked on the east. These boats held 12 tourists. On the far right, you see our guide preparing to shimmy down the rope ladder to the boat. I suppose making the boats harder to reach cuts down on shenanigans.
Helder, pronounced Elder. He was our guide and boat captain. He was from Portugal, and had a lot of experience on the sea. He said this gig was like a vacation to him. He had learned a lot of history in his short time in Ireland to share with us. And, I finally get to wear my contacts again after burning my eyes!
Beautiful scenery from the river vantage point! Kilkenny Castle, built in 1260.
Helder, let me pilot the craft for awhile, while he walked around the boat talking. How many Boone/Shelby County boys can say they have piloted a tour boat on the River Nore, in Kilkenny, Ireland?
A street scene near our tour boat boarding area. Complete with Hurling statue.
Pigeons on the roof. Growth in the gutter!
Phil making sure we all know he is on the program for Brucefest.
This town, and its mile of shops, was one of my favorites. Definitely would like to go here again.
Phil's mother taught this ditty to he and his brother when they were young. We were in Kilkenny, and we saw a cat, so...
