I read an account this morning of two prostitutes who lived together. The first one had a baby. Three days later the second one had a baby. The second mother, evidently, rolled over and smothered her child. While the first mother was sleeping, she took her dead baby, and switched it with the live baby. When the first mother woke up, she knew the dead baby was not her child.
They went to the king to settle their dispute over the child. Each woman claimed the living child was hers.
The king wisely asked for a sword. He said, “Divide the baby in two and give half to each.”
The first prostitute said, “I love my son. Please don’t kill him. Give him to her.”
The second prostitute said, “No, cut him in half.”
The king said, “Give the child to the first woman. She is his mother.” The wise king knew about the sacrificial love of a mother! (You can read about this in 1 Kings 3:16-28)
