Our Memorial Day was spent here. Mindful of those who sacrificed, that I might be free to travel around the world. We arrived early, had our choice of parking spots, and beat many of the workers here!
Paula, Theresa, and Phil looking over the booths that would be filled with artisans in period dress in an hour or so. Since the Folk Center town shops were also empty at the moment, we decided to tour the castle first.
Loved the views from the tops of the castles we visited. Most were built near water, and you can see the Owengarney River, or The Ratty River, on the east side of the castle which flows into the Shannon.
Each castle has unique things inside. Here a young lady from the U.S. is sitting on a bench in front of the "fertility stone." To do so is said to bring little ones. Her husband is taking pics. As soon as she got up she called her mom in the States and told her what she had done and a baby should be on the way! I tried to get Paula to sit there and kiss the stone but she refused. I can't imagine why!?
This carving of Irish history rests above the fertility stone.
