The Special Education room at Sturgeon Middle School has a reputation this year. If you smell something good cooking, you better go check it out! This past Thursday the aroma was wafting down the hall. It smelled like something good was happening, and it was. Jason Martie, a retired teacher and administrator from Macon, came out of retirement this year to steer the ship. Jason is an avid hunter, specializing in water fowl. Several weeks ago, after duck season opened, we had bacon-wrapped duck breast. It was oh, so, good! It tasted like steak. I think the secret is in Jason's preparation. He marinates it "until you think it will go bad in one more day if you don't cook it," and then he cooks it on the grill. The charcoal and bacon make it melt in your mouth good. Well, not long ago snow goose season opened. So, this past week we had bacon-wrapped snow goose breast. Even some of the ladies on staff, who initially turned up their noses, had to admit it was very good! Jason did not cook over the grill outside obviously, but he fried it in a skillet. He said over the grill it is A+ but he would give it an A- out of the skillet. It was A+ to me!
